Residenty

Especially for starting artists or artists who started not so long ago, it can be advantageous to research what it is you actually want in regard to your work within a different place or environment than that of your own to investigate whether what you are doing now is the result of, for example, years of academic influence.

Even if you are sure that what you are doing now is really what you want, it can still be beneficial to investigate this, or a similar, question in a completely different environment than you are used to.

This is equally true if you're an established artist and have, for example, been doing pretty much the same thing for a long time,  because your audience expects this from you, researching this question can be very important. Maybe you discover that you want something completely different and be inspired again.
But of course it can also be the case that you are confirmed in what you are doing now.

You can qualify for a residency place by participating in the OPEN-CALL organized by gallery OUT-POST in Portugal.

The gallery is located in a secluded spot on a mountain slope In the Serra de Estrella in the middle of a nature reserve. An environment where peace and quiet reigns.

Trough the residenty and an exhibition at the gallery space your work will be brought into the attention of an international audience, including a number of galleries.

the duration of a stay depends on your situation and can be from two weeks to one month.

The Serra da Estrella (Star Mountains)

The mountain range, located between the municipalities of Seia, Manteigas, Guarda and Covilhá. Is about 100 km long and 30 km wide at its widest point. It is formed from a huge granite ridge that once formed the southern border of the country.

There are three rivers that have their headwaters In the Serra de Estrella: the Mondego, the Rêzeve and the Alva.

The mountain range is part of the Serra da Estrella Natural Park and offers skiing opportunities in severe winters

In the American literary classic Moby Dick, chapter 41 mentions the legend of the mountain: “The prodigies told in ancient times of the Strello mountain In Portugal Inland. “This mountain is said to have a lake in which the wrecks of ships float to the surface.”

At the end of April early May we see the rise of Aldebaran, the brightest star in the constellation Taurus and the rise of the star Heliacal. In ancient times, these stars were the markers for the small communities to move to the high meadows of the Serra de Estrella. This organ logical story can be found in the local folk tales that explain the name of the mountain range.
